October 18, 2012
We picked our last block yesterday. This year was a big change from 2012 and we had the luxury of waiting till we had the right balance of flavors, sugars and acidity. Yields were a little bit below estimate but everything points to another excellent vintage.
We had Andrea Johnson and Bob Holmes capturing the harvest images. I think this is the best time of the year in the vineyard. All of the anticipation and work for the entire year finally comes together in a flurry of action with the grapes being collected in the picking bins and being trucked to the winery.
Here are some of the scenes from the harvest
Angela doing the heavy lifting with Lily and Iris. The dogs enjoy the activity in the vineyard and the occasional taste of grape juice.
Tony Rynders inspecting the grapes. Ready to start processing them at his winery.
Removing leaves and bad clusters from the bin.
Daniel Fey – Working his crew, he probably ages significantly every harvest.
