March 22, 2013
The year in the vineyard starts with pruning all the growth from the previous year and getting the vines ready for the upcoming growing season. In the picture below the vines are freshly pruned. Each wine has been reduced to two canes which are tied to the trellis wire.
As it gets warmer new growth will emerge from the buds on these canes. We should begin seeing new growth in the middle of April. 2013 is predicted to be a warmer year than 2012 or 2011. It would be nice to have harvest at the end of Sept or early October. Also, that is our yorkie Iris enjoying all the new smells in the vineyard.
